iGenics Reviews: Science Genics Launches Twelve-Ingredient Daily Supplement for Vision and Eye Wellness in the U.S.

iGenics Reviews

New twice-daily formula combines lutein, zeaxanthin, vitamin A, vitamin C, vitamin E, zinc, copper, bilberry extract, ginkgo biloba, saffron, turmeric and black pepper extract — with an ingredient-by-ingredient research overview

TALLMADGE, Ohio, Sept. 19, 2026 — Science Genics today announced the U.S. launch of iGenics, its twelve-ingredient daily capsule supplement formulated to support vision and eye wellness in adults. The twice-daily formula combines six AREDS-2 study nutrients alongside four botanical extracts and an absorption-enhancing compound, delivered in a vegetable capsule with all ingredient amounts fully disclosed on the label. It is designed for adults who want a daily vision wellness supplement that fits into an established routine of balanced nutrition, physical activity and regular eye care.

The formula contains lutein (20 mg), zeaxanthin (10 mg), vitamin A, vitamin C (500 mg), vitamin E, zinc (20 mg), copper (2 mg), bilberry extract (480 mg), ginkgo biloba, saffron (20 mg), turmeric and black pepper extract (BioPerine). The recommended serving is two capsules daily. All ingredient names and amounts are fully disclosed on the Supplement Facts label at visionbreakthrough.com. iGenics is manufactured in the United States in a GMP-certified, FDA-registered facility, undergoes third-party laboratory analysis and carries a Certificate of Analysis for each batch. The formula is plant-based, vegan, non-GMO and contains no fillers.

Alongside the launch, Science Genics is publishing an ingredient overview that summarizes published research on each component. The overview also explains where that research stops and what it does not establish about the finished product.

“Vision wellness supplements are often sold on bold promises built from loosely connected studies,” said Steve Harris, Media Relations Manager at Science Genics. “We took the opposite approach. iGenics is a straightforward daily formula, and we’re telling consumers exactly what’s in it, what the science on each ingredient actually shows, and where the evidence is still limited.”

A Twelve-Ingredient Formula for Daily Vision and Eye Wellness

iGenics draws from three ingredient categories, each associated with different aspects of normal eye function:

  • AREDS-2 study nutrients: Lutein, zeaxanthin, vitamin C, vitamin E, zinc and copper are the six nutrients identified in the National Eye Institute’s Age-Related Eye Disease Study 2 (AREDS-2), a large-scale randomized controlled trial examining nutritional support for age-related macular degeneration. Their inclusion in iGenics is based on that specific research context.
  • Botanical antioxidant and circulatory extracts: Bilberry extract, ginkgo biloba, saffron and turmeric contribute polyphenolic, carotenoid and flavonoid compounds studied in the context of antioxidant protection of retinal tissue, normal ocular microcirculation and normal inflammatory balance.
  • Absorption support: Black pepper extract (BioPerine) contains piperine, a compound studied for its relationship to the bioavailability of co-administered nutrients, particularly curcumin from turmeric.

The combination reflects the company’s view that vision wellness involves multiple systems — including macular pigment density, retinal antioxidant protection, ocular microcirculation and normal inflammatory balance — rather than a single pathway. Science Genics emphasizes that the AREDS-2 research context applies specifically to those study nutrients at the doses and in the population studied, and that this research does not establish outcomes for the finished iGenics formula. The finished product has not been evaluated as a complete formula in published clinical trials.

Lutein and Zeaxanthin: AREDS-2 Macular Carotenoids

Lutein and zeaxanthin are dietary carotenoids that concentrate preferentially in the macula, functioning as blue-light filters and antioxidants that protect photoreceptor cells from oxidative stress associated with light exposure.

The Age-Related Eye Disease Study 2 (AREDS-2), a large-scale randomized controlled trial by the National Eye Institute in approximately 4,000 adults aged 50–85 with intermediate or advanced AMD, found that the AREDS-2 formulation reduced the risk of progression to advanced AMD compared with the original AREDS formulation [1].

These findings had important limits — they were observed in adults with a clinical AMD diagnosis, not healthy adults, and the AREDS-2 doses (10 mg lutein, 2 mg zeaxanthin) differ from those in iGenics (20 mg lutein, 10 mg zeaxanthin). They do not demonstrate outcomes from the finished iGenics formula. Consumers should consult a qualified eye care professional for guidance specific to their eye health.

Vitamins C and E, Zinc and Copper: AREDS-2 Antioxidant and Mineral Nutrients

Vitamin C and vitamin E function as antioxidants protecting photoreceptors from oxidative damage. Zinc plays a recognized role in normal retinal function and vitamin A transport to the retina. Copper is included alongside zinc to prevent zinc-induced copper deficiency — all four are part of the AREDS-2 formulation.

The AREDS-2 trial observed this combination was associated with a reduced risk of progression to advanced AMD over five years in a defined clinical population [1]. The doses of these nutrients in iGenics may differ from those in AREDS-2. Adults already taking a multivitamin should consider their combined intake from all sources and be aware of the tolerable upper intake levels for vitamin C, vitamin E and zinc as described by the NIH Office of Dietary Supplements [8,9,10]. Individuals taking anticoagulant medications should consult a qualified healthcare professional before use, as high-dose vitamin E has been associated with potential interactions with blood-thinning agents.

Vitamin A: An Essential Micronutrient for Normal Visual Function

Vitamin A (retinol) is an essential fat-soluble micronutrient and precursor to retinal — the light-sensitive compound in rhodopsin responsible for low-light and night vision. Vitamin A deficiency is recognized by the World Health Organization as a leading cause of preventable blindness globally [2].

Its inclusion reflects its established nutritional role in normal visual function rather than a product-specific clinical claim. Adults already consuming adequate vitamin A through diet or a multivitamin should consider their combined intake. The tolerable upper intake level for preformed vitamin A is 3,000 mcg RAE per day; excessive intake carries recognized toxicity risks. Consumers are directed to the product label for the specific amount in iGenics.

Bilberry Extract: Research on Retinal Antioxidant Activity and Ocular Circulation

Bilberry (Vaccinium myrtillus) berries are rich in anthocyanins — polyphenolic compounds studied for antioxidant protection of photoreceptor cells and normal ocular microcirculation. Bilberry extract has a recognized place in European phytomedicine for eye health. iGenics discloses bilberry extract at 480 mg per serving.

A systematic review of available clinical trials noted inconsistent findings across studies, citing small sample sizes, variable preparations and inconsistent outcome measures [3]. Human clinical evidence specifically for vision outcomes is more limited than the traditional use history might suggest. These findings do not establish outcomes from the finished iGenics formula. Its inclusion reflects the recognized antioxidant research profile of bilberry anthocyanins, not a product-specific clinical claim.

Ginkgo Biloba: Research on Ocular Microcirculation and Antioxidant Activity

Ginkgo biloba leaf extract contains flavone glycosides and terpenoids examined in the context of normal ocular microvascular circulation, antioxidant activity and normal inflammatory balance — properties recognized as relevant to normal retinal blood supply.

The evidence base in eye health contexts is broad but mixed. A Cochrane systematic review on ginkgo biloba for normal tension glaucoma found insufficient evidence to draw definitive conclusions [4]. Ginkgo biloba can interact with anticoagulant and antiplatelet medications, including warfarin and aspirin; individuals taking blood-thinning medications should consult a qualified healthcare professional before use. These findings do not establish outcomes from the finished iGenics formula. Its inclusion reflects the recognized antioxidant and circulatory research profile of ginkgo biloba, not a product-specific clinical claim.

Saffron: Research on Retinal Function and Macular Pigment

Saffron (Crocus sativus) stigma extract contains crocin and crocetin — water-soluble carotenoid compounds studied for their antioxidant properties and potential relationship to retinal blood flow and photoreceptor protection. iGenics discloses saffron at 20 mg per serving.

A small number of randomized controlled trials examining saffron in adults with early-stage AMD observed associations with improvements in certain visual function markers compared with placebo [5]. These trials were limited by small sample sizes, short durations and specific preparations that may differ from those in iGenics, and their findings do not establish outcomes from the finished iGenics formula. Its inclusion reflects recognized scientific interest in saffron’s retinal carotenoid compounds, not a product-specific clinical claim.

Turmeric and Black Pepper Extract: Research on Normal Inflammatory Balance and Bioavailability

Turmeric (Curcuma longa) root extract is standardized to contain curcumin — extensively studied for antioxidant properties and relationship to normal inflammatory balance, relevant to eye wellness through the recognized link between oxidative stress, inflammatory balance and retinal tissue health.

A systematic review published in Nutrients observed associations between curcumin supplementation and improvements in antioxidant and inflammatory markers in adult participants [6]. Curcumin’s poor oral bioavailability is a recognized limitation; black pepper extract (BioPerine) is included because piperine has been studied for its capacity to enhance curcumin bioavailability [7]. These studies had important limits — specific preparations, defined populations, variable bioavailability — and do not establish outcomes from the finished iGenics formula. Their inclusion reflects curcumin’s recognized antioxidant research profile and the formulation rationale for BioPerine, not a product-specific clinical claim.

What Ingredient Research Does and Does Not Show

iGenics’ research overview separates three questions: what each ingredient is, what researchers have studied about it, and what has been demonstrated about the finished formula. Those questions have different answers.

The AREDS-2 findings are the strongest evidence in this formula’s research base. They apply specifically to a defined clinical population (adults with intermediate to advanced AMD), at specific doses, over a specific study period. They do not establish that these nutrients prevent AMD in healthy adults or that iGenics produces the same outcomes as the AREDS-2 study. The doses of the AREDS-2 nutrients in iGenics may differ from those used in that study.

The botanical ingredients in iGenics — bilberry, ginkgo biloba, saffron, turmeric and black pepper extract — have individual research profiles of varying strength. Their findings are from studies of isolated ingredients in specific conditions and do not establish outcomes from the finished iGenics formula, which combines all twelve ingredients at disclosed doses.

“We think consumers respond better to honesty than hype,” said Steve Harris. “Every ingredient in iGenics has a recognized nutritional role or an active research profile. What we won’t do is stretch a study beyond what it found.”

Safety and Suitability

iGenics is intended for healthy adults. Individuals taking prescription medication — particularly anticoagulants, antiplatelet drugs or blood pressure medication — should consult a qualified healthcare professional before use. This is particularly relevant given that ginkgo biloba and high-dose vitamin E in this formula have each been associated with potential interactions with blood-thinning agents.

iGenics is a dietary supplement and is not a substitute for professional eye examinations, prescription treatment, corrective lenses or other recommended eye care. Individuals with AMD or other diagnosed eye conditions should consult a qualified ophthalmologist or optometrist before use and should not discontinue prescribed treatment in favour of dietary supplementation.

Adults already consuming a multivitamin or individual vision supplement should consider their combined intake of vitamins A, C, E, zinc and copper from all sources. About Science Genics and iGenics

Science Genics was developed with the principle that vision wellness supplements should be built on disclosed, well-sourced ingredients whose research profiles are represented accurately — including the specific populations, doses and conditions under which that research was conducted, and the limits of what it shows. The company’s mission is to offer adults a daily eye wellness option that draws on the most credible available nutritional evidence, including the AREDS-2 study, while being transparent that research conducted in clinical populations does not automatically translate to outcomes for healthy adults taking a different formulation. Every ingredient in iGenics is individually disclosed on the Supplement Facts label with its exact amount.

Science Genics holds itself to three standards: full ingredient and dose disclosure on the label, manufacturing in a GMP-certified, FDA-registered U.S. facility with third-party batch testing, and accurate representation of the science behind each component — including its limits. iGenics’ formula combines lutein, zeaxanthin, vitamin A, vitamin C, vitamin E, zinc, copper, bilberry extract, ginkgo biloba, saffron, turmeric and black pepper extract in a twice-daily vegetable capsule. Plant-based, vegan, non-GMO and filler-free. More information: visionbreakthrough.com
